Teaching and learning resources for the South African curriculum
Children are being introduced to technology earlier and earlier in their lives. So how do you, as a Foundation Phase teacher, introduce relevant and engaging digital resources that will enhance teaching and learning in your classroom?
As a company invested in helping people succeed through learning we wanted to find a solution that not only helped Foundation Phase teachers bring technology into the classroom, but was developed to make a measurable impact on the lives of learners.
One of the ways we felt we could do this was by investing in the development of a digital resource focussed on improving literacy skills, to ensure that by the end of Grade 3, learners are able to read English First Additional Language with understanding and to prepare them adequately for the language instruction switch in Grade 4. This is how the Vuma Interactive Programme was born.
To understand what teachers needed from a digital solution, we spoke to a cross-section of teachers across the country. One of the main concerns was access to the internet.
Teachers feel that they need to be online to access and display digital content in the classroom. This made the thought of introducing technology appear time-consuming, costly and in some areas, where connectivity is almost non-existent, logistically impossible.
The Pearson South Africa team then adapted the entire English FAL Vuma Reading Instruction Programme, including, Readers, Context Cards and more, to be a completely offline digital resource.
If you love Vuma, you will be thrilled by the new addition to the Vuma family of resources.
Suitable for front-of-class use, the Vuma Interactive Programme will allow you to project the Reader onto a screen, while playing a recording of the story that your learners can follow. We have provided you with photographs and videos of words and concepts that could be unfamiliar to learners, helping to deepen understanding of what they are reading.
Plus we've included teacher training videos as well as Lesson Plans and other tools that you can print out and use in class.
As a business, Pearson is so excited to launch Vuma Interactive in 2017, that we simply had to give you a sneak preview of the product.
